Following her most recent single, Gold Covered Bliss, and her debut album, Heart Echos, Neon Ion, aka Natalie Sandtorv, drops her final track of 2021, 4 Leaf Clover.
The song is a long-awaited collaboration between Neon Ion, Jaga Jazzist’s Lars Horntveth and producer Erlend Mokkelbost. This is also the first Neon Ion track that the live version of the band has recorded, all together in the studio.
“We [Natalie, Lars and Erlend] have all been hanging out the last couple of years, and one late night at a party I asked why we still haven't worked together, and next thing we are in the studio working on this," says Natalie.
4 Leaf Clover has a groovy melody, with Natalie’s vocal taking on more of a rap cadence than on Neon Ion’s previous tracks. Natalie explains that the idea that finding your soulmate is like finding a four-leaf clover in a field of so many, is what sparked the story behind the song. “This person also bring with them good luck and gives you something you need to survive... to not be with them is a waste of time. In the song the female narrator is the pursuer, I think we need more stories like this, from this perspective. She can also be the instigator.”
